Euro 2024: Southgate shares that an England player was 'disgusted' with him

England manager Gareth Southgate has shared that Ivan Toney was "disgusted" about being subbed on in the 94th minute during their 2-1 win over Slovakia.

The Three Lions were behind for most of the game on Sunday, with Ivan Schranz scoring for Slovakia in the 25th minute.

Francesco Calzona’s team maintained their lead until the 95th minute when Jude Bellingham scored a stunning equalizer. Southgate brought Toney on a minute earlier, and the Brentford striker contributed to the chaos in the Slovakian defense, leading to Bellingham’s goal. Toney then assisted Harry Kane's winning goal at the start of extra time.

"Ivan Toney was quite disgusted when I put him on with a minute to go. I think we've made up now, but he had a big impact on the second goal. Bringing on a sub at that time is a last throw of the dice, and he might not even touch the ball, so I completely understand his reaction.

"I don't like putting a player in that position, but I just had a feeling he might create the bit of chaos that happened," Southgate told reporters.
