Olise: Thierry Henry reveals Nigeria-eligible winger has declined England
Former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry has shared that Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise prefers to play for France over England at the international level.
Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate mentioned last month that the FA was keeping an eye on the 22-year-old.
This came after Didier Deschamps chose not to include Olise in his squad for Euro 2024.
Olise, born in Hammersmith to a Nigerian father and French-Algerian mother, is eligible to represent Nigeria, Algeria, France, and England at the international level.
However, according to Henry, Olise favors representing France.
Henry said: “He has many options, but he wants to play for France. His desire to join the French team is clear. If he was committed to England, he would have already chosen to play for them. He could have opted to join the England squad for the Euros, like his Crystal Palace teammate Eberechi Eze, but he remains committed to France, even knowing he wouldn't participate in the Euros.”
