Euro 2024: Cole Palmer explains why Southgate favors Saka and Foden

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has acknowledged why he is behind players like Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden in the England squad.

Palmer did not make an appearance under Gareth Southgate in the first two Euro 2024 matches against Serbia and Denmark.

However, the 22-year-old played the last 30 minutes of the 0-0 draw with Slovenia. His performance has sparked calls for Southgate to start him in Sunday’s last-16 match against Slovakia.

Palmer commented, "I think I'm ready, but it's not my decision. I just wait for my chance and try to make an impact when I get on.

"I was excited to get 20 minutes and wanted to make an impact.

"I'm not impatient because I know it's my first tournament, and players like Saka, Foden, and Bellingham are in my position, so it's understandable. But I just want to get on and impress when I do."
