Transfer: Guardiola declines to sign a backup for Haaland, possibly a strategic decision.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that he will not be adding another striker to serve as backup for Erling Haaland.
Following Julian Alvarez's transfer to Atletico Madrid, a deal valued at up to £81 million, Haaland remains the only senior striker in Guardiola's squad. Despite speculation linking the club to various players, City has only signed winger Savinho and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
Addressing the decision not to bring in a backup for Haaland, Guardiola remarked, “Maybe it’s a mistake, I don’t know, but I prefer working with a smaller squad. I don’t like having players who go extended periods without playing.”
