Euro 2024: Netherlands Coach Koeman Explains 2-1 Loss to England.
The Netherlands head coach, Ronald Koeman, mentioned that his team merited extra time in their Euro 2024 semi-final defeat to England.
The Dutch initially took the lead early in the first half, but Harry Kane equalized with a penalty. In the 91st minute, Ollie Watkins capitalized on a pass from Cole Palmer to score the decisive goal.
Speaking to ITV after the match, Koeman said, “In the second half, it was more balanced. We had issues in our midfield in the first half, struggling to control Bellingham and Foden’s play between the lines.
“We adjusted by adding an extra player in midfield, which made the match more evenly contested.
“In the last 20-25 minutes, our team seemed slightly fresher than England. However, they scored a late goal, and that’s football. It wasn’t necessarily unlucky because it was a great goal.
“Maybe we deserved extra time, but that’s how it goes. We can be proud of our team and players for having a great tournament, even though it ended tonight.”
