EPL: Neville suggests Ten Hag's performance equals Mourinho’s, advises Man Utd against sacking him.
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has advised the club’s owners that manager Erik ten Hag deserves to retain his position at Old Trafford, despite rumors of his potential dismissal this summer.
Neville asserts that Ten Hag has equaled former manager Jose Mourinho as the most successful Manchester United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson. The club's owners are currently deciding whether to dismiss Ten Hag or give him more time to improve the team after their victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
"Ten Hag's FA Cup win has undoubtedly put Manchester United in a challenging situation. This Premier League season has been unacceptably poor for the club," Neville said on The Overlap.
"Ten Hag could argue that he hasn’t had a consistent squad to select from, especially in defense. However, the lack of control in many games has been concerning.
"Yet, he has secured two cups in two years, demonstrating he can win trophies with this team. He has matched Jose Mourinho as the most successful United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson. I believe he has earned the right to continue.
"But there isn't anyone who can suddenly elevate this United squad to a higher level. They might perform somewhat better, but even with Guardiola in charge, this United team wouldn't win the Premier League."
