Dutch legend Marco van Basten has issued a message to Manchester United concerning the potential dismissal of manager Erik ten Hag.

Former Netherlands international Marco van Basten has advised Manchester United to give Erik ten Hag more time to turn things around at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag had an impressive first season with the Red Devils, leading them to an FA Cup final, winning the Carabao Cup, and securing a top-four finish in the Premier League. However, this season has been disappointing, with Manchester United finishing eighth in the Premier League and exiting the Champions League early.

Despite calls for Ten Hag's dismissal, the Dutchman ended the season on a high note by defeating arch-rivals Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final. Recent reports indicate that there is growing support within the Manchester United hierarchy for Ten Hag, although he remains at risk of being sacked following a final review this week.

Van Basten believes Manchester United should retain Ten Hag, noting that the former Ajax manager took on too many responsibilities at Old Trafford. "It was not a good match, but it is great that he managed to win against City with such a limited team," Van Basten said. "Despite few opportunities with the players, he was still able to win the FA Cup, which was very important. As a result, they play European football. I think he is still the right man to achieve success with Manchester United. I think they should give him time."

Van Basten also highlighted Ten Hag's previous successes at Ajax, FC Utrecht, and Go Ahead Eagles, emphasizing his ability to build and strengthen teams. He noted that Ten Hag faced challenges due to injuries and the performance of new signings but expressed confidence in Ten Hag's capability to elevate Manchester United to a higher level.
